We are honored to present our sixth set of Students of Grace awards! This sixth trait is a beautiful one: faithfulness.
This month, Fr. Pedro Arrupe helps us to learn about this trait. Fr. Arrupe was the superior general for the Jesuits for eighteen years. He led the Order through Vatican II, in particular. Unfortunately for Fr. Arrupe, he suffered a debilitating stroke, rendering him unable to talk and partially paralyzed. Fr. Arrupe understood what it meant to surrender ourselves to God’s will. We cannot understand God’s will in the moment sometimes, especially when things don’t go our way. We are tempted to think that God doesn’t care about us, or that he’s even punishing us. But it takes a saint to trust that God can use a bad break or an unfortunate event to exercise his will. Fr. Arrupe understood this. He prayed this prayer from his spiritual inspiration, St. Ignatius.
All of our teachers were paying attention to students who were living out our call to be faithful. We are so happy to formally recognize our Students of Grace for this month for the virtue of faithfulness.
