We sat down with Principal of OLG Mr. Harper for this week's visit to the Teacher's Lounge!
What class do you teach?
"I am the principal at OLG!"
What is your favorite thing to do outside of the classroom?
"I'm a lover of learning - I enjoy reading, listening to podcasts, doing puzzles, and learning new things!"
What is something students would be surprised to learn about you?
"I am a triplet. My brother is two minutes older than me and lives in San Francisco. My sister is a minute younger and lives in San Diego."
What is your teaching philosophy?
"I think the Jesuits get this right. Their philosophy is that education is about the cura personalis or the care of the person. A robust education should be one of the mind, heart, body, and soul."
What is one thing a teacher said or did that resonated with you?
"When I thought about I wanted to do with my life, a teacher I admired told me simply if you're interested in being a teacher, it's the only profession with the power to change lives. That was what did it for me."
Who has influenced you most as an educator?
"I draw my strength from Christ the Teacher. He was and is the master teacher. Not only is He the source of Truth but he meets us where we are as he did the apostles on the Road to Emmaus. He should be every Catholic educator's inspiration."
What is the most recent book you read?
"'The Underground Railroad' by Colson Whitehead."
What is your favorite quote/saying?
"I can't believe that God put us on this earth to be ordinary." -Lou Holtz
