Teacher Feature of the Week: Mrs. Hop

What class do you teach?

I teach art!

What is your favorite thing to do outside of the classroom?

I enjoy gardening and spending time with family.

What is something students would be surprised to learn about you?

I learned to sail with my father and raced sailboats with him on the Delaware River.
 

What is your teaching philosophy?

With art I feel that the process gives the better learning experience than the product of the art making.

Who has influenced you most as an educator?

Many of the teachers that I have worked with over the years I've been in education!

What is one thing a teacher said or did that resonated with you?

When teachers would give me opportunities to express my art. This would include creating work for school events or taking artistic students to museums and outside facilities that offered advanced experiences.

What is the most recent book you read?

I have been reading up on Vincent van Gogh after seeing the Light Show program on his life at the Tower Theater.

Mrs. Hop is from Philadelphia, and holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of the Arts.
