Starting next Monday, March 15, Terra Nova Testing will be conducted for grades 2-7 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Elementary School. The Friday before Terra Nova Testing (March 12) students in 3rd to 7th grade will take the InView test. Terra Nova will take place all of next week.
Terra Nova Testing is a standardized achievement test to measure a student’s performance in reading, English language arts, mathematics, science, and social studies. The publishers of Terra Nova, McGraw-Hill, access students’ results based on a norm-reference scale. Instead of students receiving a grade, scores of all students participating in Terra Nova are compared. Each student is then placed in a national percentile.
At Our Lady of Grace, students typically score above average, 65% to 90%, on the tests. When averages seem lower than those percentages, administration looks to see what they can do to correct the problem. Some corrections in the past have been changes to the book series and also in the strategies used in lessons.
